Introducing 'Trog' a Three Striped Night Monkey.
This painting was created using photographic reference material - I just needed to add my own artistic touch.
This acrylic painting is unglazed on a box-framed panel. The finish is matt varnished for longevity and to aid dusting. I prefer my paintings to be seen and not suffer from reflections that glazed pieces have.
A new effect (for me) is adding a modest impasto effect to aid the texture of the foreground the monkey is looking through. Added to the black background with a very slight very dark brown effect adds more to the depth of field.
I enjoy painting eyes and these are particularly vivid. It was great fun creating Trog!
I have designed the box frame so that it can be hung as close to the wall as possible, if it were strung it could lean forward, which is a feature I did not want it to have.
